British pensioners are protesting their municipal tax bills by refusing to pay and in some cases going to jail:

quote:
They are part of a growing band of pensioners on fixed pensions who say they cannot afford to pay the full municipal tax.

Earlier this week, the first pensioner who went behind bars for refusing to settle his municipal tax bill was released from jail after a 28-day term.

The average municipal tax bill has seen an increase of about 121 per cent over the past 12 years, according to recent estimates, whereas state pensions have risen by about 40 per cent over the same period.

Very interesting.

The cost of living in Britain is so high and still rising -- I don't know how most people survive. On Canadian wages, most of us would be impoverished over there. And while middle-class wages over there look generous compared to ours, most people are still not earning at that level.
