Perhaps this is trivial, perhaps it doesn't belong in politics but it HAS to be said.......

What on earth is Harper dressed as in Cancun? Sheeeesh, he's an embarassment before he even opens his mouth.

Come on guys, we've got a surplus - get yourself an image/fashion consultant for Pete's sake.

It's worse, if possible, than all that. For once, Leah McLaren is making sense.

The front page of the National Post has a then and now picof thsi vist and also Martin's last visit as PM. Martin is also wearing a vest similar to Harpers. Maybe Martin left it behind in the PMO's office.

Stephen Harper looks lke an extra from the 'Red Green" Show.

These conservatives are starting to become a national embarrassment to Canadians on all levels.

With folks like Iggy and McIsaac considering a run for the Liberal leadership, I'd say the Liberals have huge potential for embarrassment.

Luckily Stephen Harper's political inner circle people (PMO) were not in the picture.

My only tip would be to tell him to not carry so much stuff in his pants pockets. It wrecks the lines of the pants.

It looks like a glasses case in his front left pocket and I have no idea what's in his right front pocket.

Of course, it could be worse. He could be wearing a fanny pack.

edited to add...

maybe a bottle of water in his front right pocket?

A vest in Cancun? Maybe he thought Dick Cheney was going to be around for some hunting.

At least he is only stuffing the pockets of his pants...unlike GWB has in the past. Brings up horrible memories of the fighter plane photo op.

Maybe Steveie is getting a tad excited to be so close to his hero. Look, their hands are almost touching. Feel the love.

My mother's theory is that the vest is there to hide the gut. I might try it myself...

More likely he thinks it makes him look like an intrepid foreign adventurer. In Cancun (or more accurately Chichen Itza, by the photos). Yup, dangerous Cancun - you need your arms to be free there, that's for sure.

I think he's wearing that vest, buttoned at the bottom, because he read so many remarks about his tummy after he came back from Afghanistan.

Oh right - he's going to take fashion tips from a guy whose idea of looking good is standing behind Belinda Stronach!

Well, advising him to take stuff out of the pockets may help, but it won't solve all the problems with the brown pants a few years removed from the sales rack at Moore's, the washed out blue shirt and the vest that was last worn by John Malkovich in "The Killing Fields".

Cripes, he's even wearing brown shoes. Bush and Fox, I have to say, don't look like Maximum Dad heading out to Bass Pro Shops. For all the recent secrecy in the PMO, I know one thing they weren't discussing.
