There's a big danger here that few outside the sceptic world are tuned into.

When these cults reach a point where they might be exposed, or promises of the leader are finally shown to be empty, this is when mass suicides and murders take place. We've seen this at Jonestown, Heaven's gate, and the Solar Temple.

When the clone thing is finally proven to be a hoax, I fear for the worst.

Are these the same Rae-lians who took over the Ontario NDP for a few years?

No. The current Raelians follow a race car driver who said he met and travelled with aliens who seeded earth with their species and from we are all derived.

The Raeliams you are thinking about followed a Volvo driver who alienated all of his followers and from whom we are all estranged.

The president of the party ran for the NDP federally, the PDQ provincially, and is now accepting money from Raelians.

How did he get the NDP nomination? Was there just literally *NO ONE ELSE TO CHOOSE FROM?*

It's a long story as to how this guy became a candidate for the NDP in the last elections (2000). To put it in context, in 1997 that riding was the very worst for us in the ENTIRE COUNTRY. When someone comes along who talks the social-democratic talk and who wants to bring that riding out of oblivion, its hard to find reasons to say no.

That won't be happening again. We have better standards.

Any from what I know of this guy, he may very well be lying about the money given to his party by the Raelians. Notice how the Raelians aren't quoted in the story...

Raelians are funny, and we can get a chortle and wonder at how anyone can believe that stuff, or be swept away by such a goofy guy as the head of this cult.

But in the final analysis, there's as much evidence to support thier beliefs as there is any other religion.

But stuff like this happens, and we should be concerned about those mixed up in all this.

It's hard to look at video footage of Jonestown and just toss it off as let the believer beware.

It's a situation that bears watching.

A little bird told me that the "Realians" are merely a chapter of OTL.
