Security tight as WTO prepares for Qatar talks

The logistics for the participants don't appear to be much better than Seattle. My impression from the CBC Radio 1 news cast at 6:00pm was that the security appeared pretty laid back, despite the title of the article on .

Tension was heightened Wednesday when a gunman opened fire on U.S. and Qatari soldiers guarding an air base. The attacker was shot and killed. His motive was not known, according to defence officials.

Many delegates have complained about problems with travel and accommodation, saying taxis are hard to find, some bus drivers don't seem to know where to take people, and hotels have overbooked. Others have described the security precautions as poor.

There are reports that hundreds of delegates have decided not to travel to Qatar. Canada's delegation is two-thirds of its original size, and many who have shown up told CBC Radio they wish they hadn't come.

Hey! Check out and listen to the November 7th broadcast. A newspaper Die Tagenzeitung in Germanyu broke astory about how scared shitless the WTO delegates all are, and how the security is bad, and how one of the reasons they're actually still having it is that the Emir of Qatar got reassurance from Osama Bin Laden that there would be no attakcs!

It's hilarious, please listen to it.

According to the German reporter, 75 per cent of those private American citizens who'd planned to go to Qatar have decided not to go, after briefings from the (CIA?) on the security situation.
